    DNS and home network questions

Hey everybody, I hope someone can help answer my questions.

I am wanting to set up a web server at home and move my web site to this server to save some money. From looking at this site I have decided I would like to set up my own DNS server as well. Could the DNS server sit behind my router if I forward tcp/udp port 53 to my box?

On the DNS server I would create a zone for my site (www.mysite.com), correct? Would I then also create a zone for my private lan, so my pc's on my network can still talk?

    Thanks for the help.

The port 53 forwarding should work OK.

The zones would be used to provide different results for DNS queries from the Net and your home network.

Most specifically, you'd need to have a zone file for the external zone that would return a public NAT IP address for your site, and a zone file for the internal zone that your DNS server would use to provide answers for queries from the home network for the real 192.168.x.x address for your web server.

    Hope this helps.
