I am using this tag for my user authentication proxy server. and its not working.i have done:4.restart service
1.htpaaswd /etc/paasswd/passwd user
2.chmod o+r /etc/paasswd/passwd
3.configuration in squid.cong
auth_param basic program /usr/lib/squid/ncsa_auth /etc/squid/passwd
auth_param basic children 5
auth_param basic realm LA Proxy Server
auth_param basic credentialsttl 4 hours
auth_param basic casesensitive off
acl students proxy_auth REQUIRED
http_access allow students
but when i configure firefox to use this proxy,no authentication window opens and i cannot open a single website.
pls solve my problem…….it’s urgent

Check /var/log/messages. Make sure no entries referencing selinux or audit exist. Also look in /var/log/squid at the files there. I would also suggest you try making it work without authentication, then add the authentication after. Sounds like you could have perhaps two different problems, and it would be best to narrow things down to one.

Why don’t you use the "acl password proxy_auth REQUIRED" option in Squid itself? Also, set acl’s for whatever subnets/hosts, and set those in the http_access section.
