I like GNOME Commander as a file manager especially because it is based off of my favorite, GNU Midnight Commander.
I like MC because I can use it over SSH, or I could use that over vnc I guess, but I'll definately try it.
I like cp, mv and rm as my file manager. Maybe a bit of bash scripting with some sed or perl mixed in too.

I use MC for searching mostly, which I feel is it's strongest feature.

Yeah I have nothing against gmc or mc, I've used them both, I just wanted to join the file manager discussion.
Back on topic, pork nice console based aim client. I run this through screen, and gaim connected under the same screenname, and set pork to be away. that way if gaim is away also and i ssh in, I can check my messges without looking at the logs of gaim, and I can reply too.
