answer is easy: IT can't be worse than the 2009.0 was .

installed it yesterday : only two major failures:
VLC in full screen under KDE leaves the task bar visible all the time.
My brother multifunction is not working due to either incompatibility of brother drivers with cups 1.4.1 or mandriva fault in tcsh...of course at brother nobody gives an answer apart from go and follow drivers page instructions, and in Mandriva it doesn't seem to move too much...
    wait & see.
but system is faster , and works pretty well!

lets see what happends when the first flow of corrections come.

well I must say that for me, this time, it is all good, first update corrected my printer problem and there is left my vlc display to solve, apparently a known problem that is going to be solved in next VLC release.
System is still very responsive, the free release doesn't need much to add on, once it is installed: select all package source and then you can install flash, proprietary nvidia driversand much ore, direct from control center, skype has to be forced to be installed but work with no problems here. A loooong looong road has been done since mandrake
Virtualbox works nicely as well (I need windows to update regularly my tomtom gps )
For me it seems that 2010.0 is as good as 2009.0 was bad, as simple as that!
I can easily see this as the perfect beginer distro...If you want to try it you can go with the ONE version that is running live from CD:
    all available here: http://www2.mandriva.com/downloads/
really worth having a look at!

Yeah I might definitely have a look. I have really been hooked on Debian based OS's for a few years now (particularly with Ubuntu) but would love to see how the old Mandriva is. I have a spare PC i might boot with it.

Does anyone actually use the paid version?

yes lots of people use the powerpack.
it is the free + proprietary/comercial drivers and softwares added so it is even easier for a beginer: all is inside since first minute.
but for a test i'd go either for free or one (the one includes some proprietary drivers).
