    Re:redhat

I'm not sure I understand your first statement. To answer your second question, yes RH9 is a really nice release. There's quite a bit in the default install that needs cut out there's great potential in that release. It's my distro of choice right now.

When budgets were tight and the .com bubble burst, I ran a colocation datacenter's DNS server on RH9 right up until FC4 came out.

It worked just fine, I used iptables to lock down access to only the data center subnets on port 53 and SSH access from a pair of bastion hosts.

The only problem I had with it was that bind would never stop properly. I always had to use the kill command.

RH9 is several years old, it's not a good release to try out as a user. Use Fedora Core 6.
Why are you not using Fedora Core?

I actually got a kick out of the story. A RHL 9 setup that lived that long. Kinda reminds me of the bad days when MS would force you to wait 5 or so years to get a new OS.... Nowadays I am so used to Red Hat and Canonical releasing roughly every 6 months.

Kinda spoils me a bit, I must admit.
I prefer linux, rather than the bollocks.
