    Teach Lovey basic paranoia

I decided I want to be safe, SSL, GPG, SSH and all those nifty abriviations. But I know nothing about safety, so I need you to write me PETs

I'll do GPG here soon. Maybe even SSL. ;D

    I dont get it.

But I was serious, I have advogated secure computing for a while, but have yet to actually make an effort - since I believe that secure computing should be effortless (default behavior).

I use SSH to access all of my remote servers. If you're using that and you want to ensure security, disable password logins and only use SSH keys (I use RSA w/ 2048-bit encrpytion).

Start messing with VPN links between you and a buddy. Find a mail host that supports SSL and use it. Get your self some GPG and encrypt some mail! Just start doing it, and if you get stuck anywhere we'll be glad to help you along.

Anything that you use internally or with friends (non-public) put thorough SSL. If it doesn't have options for SSL, use stunnel to tunnel just about any network app through SSL.

The other end would need to support SSL, correct?

IPSec is a great idea. On top of the ssh idea, disable root logins as well.
