What text editors are available in rescue mode?

Now that my kernel had panicked, I needed to fix lilo.conf file. There seems to be wrong /boot entry. Instead of (1,0) for the first disk for /boot, somehow it's (3,0), it says.

But none of the editor I use ( VI or AE ) are reachable in rescue mode. What file editor can I use in this mode?

    TIA

It depends on your distro. However, if you mount your /, you should be able to use any executable on your /.

    HHmm .. Debian ...

I booted with 2.2 kernel that I left just in case. Now, it's a whole new other problem. But at least, I can try to recompile the kernel.

Any chance that you can get your hands on a Knoppix CD? I use that for just about any "rescue" issues I run into now. You can access vi or even the GUI editors. You also can fsck your hard drives or access just about any utility you may need.

If you leave your known-working-kernel just for the fallback, then there is no problem. ;D

I booted with 2.2.20 and run fsck manually. All is well now ( except the huge kernel 2.4.23 that I compiled. I'm just gonna compile a new 2.6. )
