yep, just right for gaming, its not bad either, only going to cost me about $750 CDN, i might save just a little and see if i can get a 9700 pro, because it preforms better than the xt does.

    Re:COMPUTER UPGRADE!!!!

you might run into some issues with 3d drivers for those cards. Does ati produce any drivers themselves, for linux that is?

    Re:COMPUTER UPGRADE!!!!

yep, you can get 2d/3d binary drivers from the ati website.
I went for a 7500 myself, as the 3d X drivers are open source

well going with a 7500 would piss me off, because it would definately slow down my system in games, and most games i play in windows anyways, i cant get a 9700 pro so i am going with a 9600 pro, then ill get a tv tuner later.

    Excuse me?
You must be playing doom 3 pre-releases.... im unaware of many games that will die horribly with a 7500.... maybe im behind the times playing rtcw and UT....

well, i don't think that games released now will have problems, it can't hurt to be prepared for the future..

    Re:COMPUTER UPGRADE!!!!

Actually not even a 9600 Pro is going to save you for Doom 3 or Call of Duty. I have call of duty, and the only machine, that can play it will maxed out graphics is my brothers machine at 2600+ XP Barton, 512 CAS2 DDR400 RAM, and 9800 Pro 128 MB. I haven't tested CoD out on my other brothers PC that has 256 MB CAS2 DDR333 RAM, and 9600 Pro, but it should run it fairly well, but not anywhere near full detail. Oh, and I add that this is in 1280x1024 no way either would do 1600x1200 at full detail. They don't have to worry about that though, as their monitors don't go that far.
    AMD Athlon 2200+ 1.8Ghz
    1280MB PC-3200 CAS2.5 RAM
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB AGP

    Seagate ST3200822A 200GB 7200 rpm ATA/133

    Western Digital WDC WD800BB-00CAA1 80GB 7200 rpm ATA/133
    Maxtor OneTouch 2HA43R32 1TB 7200 rpm USB 2.0
    D-Link DFE-530TX+ 10/100 NIC
    D-Link DWL-G520 Rev.A

i currently have a radeon 7000 pci, no way i am stepping up one video card, i have the money i want to make a computer that can do EVERYTHING i want and well into the future. not just current games, that INCLUDES direct X 9 capable games, which the 9600 pro\xt are the lower line.
