WINE Dependency - CANT FIND ANYWHERE

    Hi

I am really persisting with Linux because of my personal dislike for multinational nasties, and also because there's no reason that I shouldn't be able to learn how to use it effectively - so to test it out I thought I would install one of my most used programs - Kazaa Lite.

Kazaa requires Wine - OK got that.

    Wine required the following files

    libasound.so.2 - OK got that.

    libasound.so.2(alsa_0.9)

There is the problem......I can't find it ANYWHERE. I spent all last evening sniffing around the web for it - found lots of referenes to it - but nothing that actually contained the file.

Can someone please help me and do it in PLAIN ENGLISH FOR A LAMER?

    Fanx,

    Dwain.

At what point do you get that error?

Re:WINE Dependency - CANT FIND ANYWHERE

I'm guessing your using an RPM based distro. So here is an rpm for you to use.

    http://www2.linuxforum.net/RPM/libasound.so.2.html

also check out the "apt sources list" in the software forum and use APT.

Since you want KaZaA try http://gift.sourcegorge.net it uses diffrent networks (fasttrack, openft, gnutella and others)

Drop Kazza. They are busting people left & right on that client. There a various other ways like IRC.

Re:WINE Dependency - CANT FIND ANYWHERE

The error is during wine installation - stops for those dependencies.

    I am using redhat 9

I had already visited http://www2.linuxforum.net/RPM/libasound.so.2.html - this is actually where I obtained the first file libasound.so.2, however I can't find anything that relates to the file libasound.so.2(asla_0.9) which is the second dependency that the install is hanging up on. If it is contained in one of the files on that page - can you tell me how you would know????????

I know Kazaa isn't the best these days - I also use overnet, but I am trying to learn by achieving one task at a time, and I expected that KAZAA would be easier to set up than overnet.

I have heaps of things to learn, and working through them this way appears to be the best way to learn em.

    Fanx,

    Dwain.

    Hi Dwain,

Is that the exact error message?

What version of Wine are you using?

I've used kazaa lite under wine before, and though it works, it is slow (most wine apps are slow.)

Under linux, a native option to Kazaa is http://gift.sourceforge.net/ . There is a plugin for it to use the Fastrack (Kazaa) network.
