    MP3's over a network

This may be a stupid question, but I have my mp3 on my windows folders and I am able to browse them through samba, but I can't play it through XMS or any other audio player. Kanoodle will play one at a time, but won't queue them. Is there any way to listen to them without moving them to my linux box?

You should be able to mount your Win partition from Samba, and then choose /home/user/mnt/sambashare/mp3dir/ in XMMS to play them. If this isn't working, can you let us know if any errors on either end are occuring? If you have a Professional version of Win, also post your events on this problem that are in the Application logs from the Event Viewer.

I don't have a home/usr/mount/ directory. I can get to the windows box through local network on the desktop or going to smb://home though. If I type the smb destination in the location bar of XMMS it will load the MP3 but not play it. I do have a pro version of windows but I don't see any errors on that side. Thanks.

Try using the command "smbmount" to mount the directory. Not sure of the exact syntax...you'll have to figure that part out. This is equivalent to the windows "Map Network Drive"

Most perfect one meant that you have a username directory in the /home folder. Make a mountpoint there and use the smbmount command to mount it.

For example my home folder is /home/schotty so /home/schotty/mnt/beer would be a possible place to put it.

Also try in nautilus network:/// or in samba smb:/ to get a list of smb servers.
