Consumer Rights - Eye Care

Hi Guys and Gals,

I live in California and I just got out of the exam and I am a bit upset. I was offered 2 pairs of glasses before I even had my exam. At the end of the examination I was escorted to the lense shop at the doc's office. Isn't that against the law. Since they used information about my exam to sell me something. I never said I wanted to get new glasses or anything.

I dunno if leading you into a lense shop or offering you glasses is illegal. Now had they charged you for glasses with your examination bill, THAT would be illegal...in most parts of Canada, at least.

Well I know that for wireless service they cant offer you something based on what the carrier knows about you from info you havent given them.

Hey, I wouldn't bitch if someone wanted to pay for my glasses - I just got new lenses in mine and boy... put a giant hole in my wallet.

I tell you, get laser surgery done. I had it done a few years ago. I have 20/15 vision now, don't have to worry about contacts or glasses. Also, in the long run you'll save a ton on eye care, glasses, contact solution, etc. It's true you have to fork out ~$500/eye, but most places have payment plans. It is definetly worth it, the best investment you can do.

The payment plan option is very true. However for someone like me with a horrible astigmatism, I am currently now having the oppurtunity to have a laser surgery that can correct my sight in only one surgery. And that at the current time is considerably more.

But when you look at it, I spend $300 on a pair of glasses every three years or so (eyes are slowing in their dgredation). To spend a grand each eye (2k total) that is goping to last much more than 20 years STILL aint bad. As soon as it gets cheaper Ill be right there in line.

I have bad eyesight but laser surgery seems bad to me. I've heard that it can cause problems down line. :-[

RK sucks, Lasek and some even newer technology is both very safe, and reversibile (like if you get ... Me as your doctor. Drunk, laser g..g..going all over the p..pp..place) ;D

Talk to you Optomitrist. They will be able to say what method is best. I was told to hold off for the next generation technology (Which is now Lasek) and wait for it to be cheap (when we talked it was 2K an eye or more, and more like 3K each for me). It seems to be geting there for me. Its down to less than a third of what I was originally told.

But like I said, talk to someone who actually is paid to know their shit, not my dumbass Besides it is your eyes, not mine ;D

Well I actually like how I look with glasses. Plus I need prisim in my glasses. So I can't have surgery done.

Spoils of being a socialist - I can get it done for free if my doctor deems it to be the best option... that only happens in rare cases though so if I want it I have to pay. I have pretty good eyesight even without glasses, I'm only like -1.25, -1.25 + a defect in one eye.

I kinda like having glasses though, aside rain and training (where I take them off for comfort - sadly I can't see the babes well then) I find them to be no great bother.
