Maybe it's intrinsic to Buddhism. Back when they introduced the concept of karma the were like "ah, let's make that seven bit for karma. Nobody's ever gonna get more than that."
At least they didn't implement a roll-over once your karma reaches 2^7-1...
The karma field was set up by YaBB as a TINYINT in the database which indeed limits the highest value to 127. I changed it to SMALLINT UNSIGNED which should go up to 65535. Just let me know when you are about to pass that. ;D
