I believe the desire to shop, in both men and women, and in what areas they choose to spend in is a socialized behavior.
For instance, none of my friends are fond of shopping and neither am I. Purchases worth while to us lie more in the realm of books and art supplies.
My sister on the other hand, loves to shop and is picky about fashion. As are all her friends...
And my brother wears more namebrands than I ever did.
Its all what you're used to...
