    connecting to FTP

Well today I thought I would try using an GFTP to send stuff to my "webspace" folder that my ISP gives me so it would make sending/deleting much easier for me.

When I try to connect it says connected in the bottem left, but there is nothing should on the window on the right. I am very sure my password and user name are correct because when I use the CLI (ftp -v www3.telus.net) it works just fine ???

    TIA
    Michael

    Re:connecting to FTP

    Michael,

I use gFTP every couple of hours at least on my RH9 system to/from my domain(s) host, with terrific success.

I'm using v. 2.0.14 (not sure if that is the latest or not), but it flat out works.

What error messages are you getting in the bottom panel, as it conects or attempts to connect?

Are you sure you have the default protocol set to FTP?

Have you tried using the IP# vs. the domain name?

Are you sure you have the cortrect real path to the public_html (or whatever your directory on the server is called) set in the right hand upper box? Should be like /usr/home/username/www or close to that.

I find using passive is better, and be sure to use binary vs. ascii when appropriate.

If none of this helps, maybe an upgrade / re-install is in order there?

Yay I works ;D ;D it was the port number that was causing the problems. I kept using port 80, so when I was entering my user/pass I forgot to enter a port number : and it did it on it's own

Yep, that'll do it, FTP is on port 21

    Way to go!
