    Re:Emacs

Do you know how to disable the toolbar on startup? I can do m-x tool-bar-mode to turn it off, but I want to add a line to my .emacs file so that it never comes up in the first place.

    GNU Emacs 21 BTW.

    Re:Emacs

    The .emacs line reads:

    '(tool-bar-mode nil nil (tool-bar)))

This is how I found out:

Start emacs and select Options->Customize Emacs -> Specific Option. Then enter "tool-bar-mode" (no quotes, tab completion works here) in the mini-buffer. Click "Toggle" and then "State" and select "Save for future sessions..." from the menu that pops up. This writes your new .emacs file.

    Hmmm...

    I put

    Code:
    (tool-bar-mode nil)
into my .emacs and it also did the trick.
