ut2003 sound

wahoo ut2003 installed and it's running and i'm fragging, but i can't hear anything. i have an SiS7012 (NOT 7018), and i have the correct kernel chunk etc compiled in, xmms works, but mpg123 doesn't. i dunno i've never understood sound in linux very well, i'm not sure what i need to do to be able to hear my gunshots. i'm really not sure if my sound is configured incorrectly or if UT is configured incorrectly.

also it looks like there is another post about this but i tried running in user mode instead of root and that didn't change anything. any ideas?

That is quite possibly the vaguest answer anyone could have given me.

Except maybe.... you know I really can't think of a vaguer answer. Is it correct to say vaguer? Or does one have to say more vague? Am I even spelling vague right?

how is it vague?

check your ut2k3 folder and see if the permissions are set right on the files.

I guess it really wasn't that vague.
Anywho I found a site about it anyways, you had to update a certain file or something or other...

I don't remember where but if anyone really wants to know ask me and I'll try to find it.
