have you setup your samba users?
Hi Guys,
I'm setting up a small samba share server on my home lan, and I'm having some configuration errors.
This is what I want to do:
I want to share the following directories:
/music --Read-only by everyone but user Trickster
/stuff --Read-Write for everyone
/Jorge --Read-Write for user Trickster, no access for anyone else.
This is my smb.conf file:
smb.conf
Now, if I browse the network under Windows, I see the server, though not the shares. If I click on the server (as to see what is inside. ie. the shares.) it asks me to type in a username and password, and no matter what I type, I can't get in. ???
Also, are my share definitions correct for what I want to do?
Thanks for any input.
have you setup your samba users?
Ok, I figured I had to run smbpasswd. Now I am getting to some shares. My questions are now:
1. How can I restrict some folders only for certain users?
2. Do I have to create a local account for each user?
3. Is there a way to set it up so the user won't be prompted for a password? Would that be a big security risk?
How much of a security riskis to SUID smbmnt?
