    LJR Chat

I am trying to get in the LJR irc channel using Mozilla Firebird .6.1, but it's doing something weird..

Closing link: edmnt1106c.nbnet.nb.ca (Invalid username [~a:2i:O;])
That is not the username I put in though.. I guess I will just stick to XChat, but I am kind of curious to see if I am the only one with this problem.

It must be the same problem with the new Cookie format. Let me see if I can fix it.

I don't think there is much left for the new cooke format to break.

[homer voice]Hmmm...cookies![/homer voice] I really hate the whole cookie issue. I especially hate the fact that unscrupulous people use them to track others. That is too close to a Big Brother/FBI wiretapping thing for my tastes.

Are there any browsers out there that can't accept cookies? Text browsers or something? Just curious.

    Cheers

You can turn cookeis off in practically all browsers. However, you will have problems on some sites, including this one.

Cookies are not evil, they are just a tool, but some people abuse them. Just like a knife is a useful tool in the kitchen, but some evil people use them to hurt others. I still wouldn't say that knives are evil ...

I realize that cookies are not inherently evil. I just wish that there was some sort of mechanism in place that would allow you to view the attributes of the cookie. That way, you could tell if it is actually tracking where you surf or if it is benign and merely let's the server know that you have already authenticated with it. That is why I only allow cookies on my system that are from trusted sources (yahoo mail, ljr, etc).

    Cheers

Ahh simple, open it up and look at it. You will see what data is obviously being shared.

I tried with Mozilla Firebird on both Windows XP and Slackware, as well as IE6 on Windows XP - It works on Internet Explorer..
