Succcessful setup of Icecast?

Has anyone setup Icecast successfully?

I installed from source and it is under /usr/local/icecast but reading the config file shows that it wants /etc/icecast/conf/icecast.conf there as well.

Either way, I've made changes to the config file under /usr/local/icecast and they do not stay when I execute the file.

I'm using these urls for help but not getting anywhere fast

when i try to start icecast, it shows following error.

could not create listener socket on port 8000
server startup failed, Exiting.

any suggestion for troubleshooting?
