Anyone who can afford one of those has too much money, and probably wouldn't even use 1% of it's power, unless you are a business running a 7000 node network. Let's see here....

    $800x 4 = TOO MUCH FUCKING $$$$
price unknown for mobo. Dual Opteron mobo @ $500
PCIX replacement equipment = Might as well stop now
64-bit OS. Most likely you would want WinXP 64-bit = OMG! You didn't just spend that much just to play UT2003!!!!

lol. I love how original you name stuff..

Yea, a quad opteron box would be just a _little_ overkill :P
The Athlon64 is looking nice, but (apparantly) isn't much different than the opterons... I've always wanted a multi-processor box.. maybe I'll buy two Athlon XPs and use them as MPs.. Either way, I am going to have a killer box.

Nixel: Linux From Scratch (Main box, used for everything)
    Athlon XP 2100
    Albatron KX400+ Pro
768 PC2100 ram (Actually 256 of it is pc2700 but i have to downclock it to use the 512 stick)
    80GB Maxtor

Skein: NetBSD and WinXP (just a test box, windows for autocad and photoshop)
    P3 450
    Dell Optiplex GX1 450
    20GB

BlueBar: LFS and Mac 9 (eventually will be gentoo/mac x maybe netbsd too)
    500MHz iBook

    Dex: Slack 9.0 (broken)
    350MHz k6
3 1GB SCSI (But can only use 2 at a time.... and they each weigh like 50 pounds and they are kinda loud and they are twice the size of normal hard drives [thicker])
I'm gonna fix this one up and leave it here while i'm in college next year. then have some menu thing so my dad can set it to act as a router in case something goes wrong with our wireless/hub router. and also have it so it can act as a ssh server so i can ssh to it and then tunnel vnc or something in case i need to fix someone here's computer.

    Names mean:
    Nixel (as in like *nix)
Skein (Group of geese, at work/former school when setting up a temporary server to run a cgi program me and a friend made i named it flock as in F-Lock because we were running the cgi from windows/apache before but it was crap because we couldn't lock the files (flock), i started calling it flock cause it sounded better, it ended up being the school webserver because the one that we /paid/ to have setup never worked. then we finally got a new /server/ to be the webserver and this was Rookery (group of penguins, rook for short). So one day i took home skein, she was broken and gonna be tossed so i fixed her up and here she is. figured i'd name her like the others of her sort.
Dex: had windows on it at one point and the hostname was windex. i then had a bash script called x2dex which ran x2vnc connecting to windowx. i liked the dex nick name.
bluebar: was randomly picked as a code name for something else as a joke, chose for book in memories...

Yes. They are not original in the naming scheme, but they match the domain name. On top of that it makes it easy for me to know where the problem is if I see chater on on the lights on one of my riouters. Instead of having the remember what computer is on what port, I can easily look an see that DARK3 is on port 3, or if port 8 is chattering, it's coming from the Cisco. I guess I could take the time to name them all, but it seems a bit more pratical IMO to name them for easy network diagnosis.
