I need a bigger / fs so I created a new bigger partition for that, but I donīt know where to go from there,, and how to move the content of the old / to the new one? and how to tell the system of the change?
btw I am using Mandrake 9.1 and have /, /usr, /var /boot, /tmp, /home each in a seperate patition
thank you in advance
Make a folder to mount the newly created partition.
Mount your new partition there
mount -t filesystem /dev/hd** /new where filesystem is the name of your filesystem, and hd** is your new partition.
Copy everything in / to /new
cp -rf /* /new/ (There might be an error here, because it might try to copy /new onto itself. I will check how to get over this when i get home.)
Edit your boot manager to point / to your new partition.
For lilo, edit it so that it looks like:
image = /boot/vmlinuz
label = linux
root = /dev/hd**
then rerun lilo.
For Grub, you need to reinstall it:
Install GRUB on the MBR. su -c grubroot (hd0,2) (substitute (hd0,2) for the hard drive and partition where your / is located.), setup (hd0)
Then edit /etc/fstab to point to your new /.
/dev/hd*****/ ***ext2 ***defaults ***1 ***1
Man, I'm confusing as hell. Let me know if I lost you.
