    can't compile on slackware

I can not compile anything. Everytime I do a ./configure, I get this:

    creating ./config.status
    creating src/Makefile
sed: file conftest.s1 line 6: Unterminated `s' command
    creating src/backend/Makefile
sed: file conftest.s1 line 6: Unterminated `s' command
    creating src/qt/Makefile
sed: file conftest.s1 line 6: Unterminated `s' command
    creating src/gtk/Makefile
sed: file conftest.s1 line 6: Unterminated `s' command
    creating Makefile
sed: file conftest.s1 line 6: Unterminated `s' command
    creating config.h
    config.h is unchanged

I used to be able to compile on this machine just fine, I don't think I have changed anything that has to do with sed..argh. Any ideas? I have no clue what to do, I'm not too fond of downloading binaries, I like to optimize my stuff. Thanks

I'd say try reinstalling sed, from the cd. it should be in /mnt/cdrom/slackware/a/sed-4.0.5-i386-2.tgz

Okay. I did that and then rebooted (I wanted to see my pretty bootsplash, and I thought it was as good of an excuse as any) and I still have the same problem. ugh

Are you getting the same error with anything you download? have you tried different sources for different programs?

The same error for everything. I downloaded nvclock and got that error. I downloaded grip and got that error. I downloaded xmmsd and got that error. The list goes on.

I had some similar, but not equal problems some time ago. I ended up booting from the cd/ mounting my partition, chrooting it, and reinstalling every package ( installpkg /mnt/cdrom/slackware/*/*.tgz). It worked, and did not mess anythign up. However, it is kind of dangerous...

I *may* try that, when I get home from a four-day trip to the other side of canada. Look for an update on my situation on sunday or monday lol. Have a good weekend!

Could you guide me through the process of doing this? How dangerous is it?
