Thread: What is an .asc file?

    What is an .asc file?

I'm trying to download an .iso of Slackware so that I can burn it and install it. There is an .isc.asc file that looks like a compressed version of it, but I've only got windows right now. Is there a way to decompress and burn it from windows? I've got NTI Professional as a burning program...

PGP signature file. It is used only to verify the authenticity of of a downloaded file. You need to download the .iso file to get Slackware.

Thank you. Is the .iso the only thing I need to download? And then I 'raw-write' the file to disk, yeah?

The .iso file has everything you need to install Slack. I don't know about raw-write, but Nero or Adaptec Easy CD will burn the iso image on a CD for you.

[/quote]'rawrite' is used to transfer floppy images to floppy. If your system can't boot from CD, you would download a boot floppy image and use rawrite to transfer it to floppy.
