Trying to keep the faith-------A Doom 3 Story

Well according to some highly trusted sources, the Linux client for Doom 3 is in testing right now over at ID software. No whisper of a release date, and no juicy details, just this little quote from ID's TTimo to to LinuxGames.com to keep that spirit alive.

Crap, now I have to invest in better hardware. My excuse used to be that I don't have a Windows machine to play Doom, well....now. Awwww heck..

I agree. Far Cry is still the creme de la creme of the current crop of games. My buddy (who games all night and day) said that Doom 3 gets really boring because it's so dark, literally. Every room is pitch black and you're constantly switching from the flashlight to your gun just to try and kill the monsters before they kill you and it becomes very uninteresting after a while.

Yeah, sometimes it feels like a chore, and you really need to rely on audio cues more then vision. Isn't it ironic? The best graphics around, and most of it is too dark to see it!

Well one thing about DOOM 3's beautiful graphics, is that I look forward to all of the glorious mods (and not to mention games from the same engine) that should be inherently cross platform. C'mon guys outside the box!!!

It really opens things to the future. I remember thinking how great Quake 3 Arena's graphics were, and then we were all blown away by the games made on the same engine, such as Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Medal of Honour. So if you are happy that you can only just run doom 3, then it won't be long till you wont be able to play anything else.

I haven't heard too much about the gameplay aspect of D3. But I am still saving up for a new video card now, I really want to play it and FryCry. But, this is all just a prelude to the Half-Life 2. Ok, ok, so I have bought into the hype, no change that, I have fully bought into the hype. I am sooo freeekin pumped for this game to come out! Please dont' suck HL2!!!!

hmmm.... i find the prospect of D3 to be much more attractive the HL2... but then again, i'm not playing D3 either

[it's not exactly open-source, but i may make an allowance, but even moreso, i don't have the graphics card for it]
