I need a newer CPU. My amd XP 2000+ is getting dusty!![]()
saying your machines as old box or slow box even though it's at least 450 MHz. It may be somewhat out of date but there are those of us ( I am one of those ) who still uses some older machines for desktop and it still works fine.
My desktop box is P 233, 128 MB with (now defunct ) RH 7.3.
My web server is P 233, 256 MB with Debian on it.
My wife's box is AMD 700 with 256 MB, RH 7.3 - Win2K dualboot.
Now don't make me go sit in the corner and cry .... :P
;D ;D Now, I feel better ....![]()

My P4 1.8 is just ancient![]()
Damn these 32-bit machines!
I'm not as concerned about processor speed as much as I am about the amount of memory I have and the speed of my hard drives. So I have a 1600+ with 768mb of DDR and a WD 80gb special edition drive. Not the latest and greatest but I feel no need to upgrade either. (Well, a GF4 Ti would be nice)

Hey, I still have a P75! Of course, I don't think it works any more (I haven't tested it out and I've gotten rid of several parts). I'm going to throw it away soon, I guess.
I want an SMP setup - preferredly VIA C3 based, 2 or 4 way would be nice
I have an old 486 DX2/66 that works perfectly. I pulled the HD out of it recently because I needed dos to flash my bios. It just sits under the bed and hasn't been moved in months.

I understand why you would want the VIA C3, as it is quite cool running. Does the VIA C3 support SMP?

The new one is suppose to - if it doesn't I'll hang on the for next Transmeta chip called astro which will support SMP and performs better and puts out less heat.
The main selling point of the VIA C3 has to be the EDEN platform, it's simply brilliant for setting up a single computer for a regular joe who checks his email and does a bit of surfing - it's a hell of a lot of computer for your buck.
