Thread: Hyper-Threading in Linux?

  1. #21

    Re:Hyper-Threading in Linux?

    OK I GOT IT!

First off the defualt Mandrake SMP kernels dont show 2 CPUS, I think because you have to specify P4 in the kernel config, not the generic x86 family that Mandrake does.....

SO I compiled a 2.4.21 CK patch kernel with SMP and now 2 CPUS ;D The video problem was fixed by using a "vga=normal" in lilo.conf , I now get like 640x480 at boot (I'd like to get 1280x1024 at some point, but Im all good for now) and X works perfect with the newest Nvidia drivers

Only error I get is a sound error because it tries to load a module that doesnt work for my soundcard (which it also does with the defualt Drake kernel). SO i have to modprobe it after boot, how can I avoid this step? Cant I add a modprobe line to some RC file?

You should be able to add the line to /etc/rc.d/rc.local.

To get a higher resolution on the console, you need to compile fram buffer support on the kernel configuration.
