Partition access issue with mandrake 9.1

    Hi all,
I have recently installed mandrake 9.1. I created a regular user for myself during the installation as normal.
Now I have two windows partition, the second one is fat and mandrake mounts it in win_d. The first one is NTFS and is mounted in win_c.
The problem is that from my regular user account I cannot access these folder. The console tells me permission denied. HOwever when i su to root, I can perfectly access this partitions.
Why is this happening? please help!

You are going to have to edit you /etc/fstab file.
I believe you need to add:
to the options for the partition. For example:
    /dev/hda2 /mnt/win_c ntfs defaults,user,ro,umask=000 0 0
notice the section where umask=000 is, that is where you need to add it in your file.
If you post the line from your /etc/fstab file for the NT partition I can show you exactly what it needs to be changed to.

    Hope this helps.

Yeah, pwrhouse is correct. In your /etc/fstab , you have your partitions that are mounted at boot, how they are mounted, and under what format. That will fix it then. Otherwise if you are manually mounting (like from a terminal window), read up on the man page for mount for the appropriate flags to pass. One nfty thing you can do is alias (or even easier, put into your fstab) the command to mount, to something easier to remember and type, like alias mount -abunch -of -shit /dev/hda2 /mnt/windows to mountmewindowsnowbitch or something similar (look up the exact syntax of alias in the bash manpage)
