    When do you guys use suid?

    I know its the lazy way of working out permissions, but are there some programs that are "safe"?

    I'm behind a decent firewall and my network is just for home use. (Though I think I caught my 7yo trying to hack me LOL)

    I'm just curious if you guys use any suid's on proggies.

    I use suid for bash :P I use suid for basically nothing, it's a horrible way to do something if there is another way. I once actually did have a script that called bash that was SUID, I forgot it in my home dir for weeks =)

    Oh, also with SUID comes not only paramater tampering vulnerabilities, but if you run a shell script like this:

    #!/bin/sh

    /bin/id

    There are already 2 vulnerabilities in that (1 on OpenBSD because OBSD sends a file descriptor to the script)
