Slack 9.0, Gnome 2.2 and centering

Using Gnome 2.2 on Slack 9.0. When I open an app that I do not want full page I notice they always open in the upper left corner of the screen. Have looked all over trying to find a way to have them open in the section of the screen I want. Any suggestions on how? Thanks in advance!

Well, with Windows apps, if you position it where you want it and then use File, Close or Exit, it usually opens in that position the next time you use it.

Not quite sure if it will work with Gnome, but worth a try.

Tried that - only works if I make it full size. Have some apps I want to open in a certain position but having trouble doing that (exception - Gaim).
