gaim font problems

I finally have all my fonts just the way I like them. See, I got around to fixing gtk so I can use gnome again, and just about everything is perfect...except for one issue. Gaim 0.61 is screwed up. Whenever I send a message, it appears in the IM window as it should be. Whenever someone sends me a msg, all the characters appear as boxes with numbers inside. It's so bizarre. I've tried changing the font but it won't work. Does anyone know wha this is all about?

K fixed...apparently it wasn't just Gaim. A lot of fonts are just like this. Some of the Sans fonts just won't appear. Others work though, and most importantly the good ones work so I think we're ok
