    I don't really know jack shit about RAID, the jist of it that I have gotten is that it uses multiple harddrives to mirror the main one to operate off of in case it goes down or something. My question is that do RAIDS have a place on the workstation or mainly just a server. I was thinking of trying to learn raid but I don't want to if it is pointless to do on a workstation computer.

    I have a RAID0 setup in my Desktop box and it really flies.

    RAID0 is mainly for desktops, it's rather unsafe'ish but it's fast.

    I think number of disks times slowest drive in the chain is a good estimate for the performance.

    There are a couple of tricks to RAID, and it should make a good PET someday when I have time.
