    Samba help

    Below is one of my section in smb.conf. What I am trying to accomplish is this. Only people in /etc/group acc can access this share, they can write to this share, whenever a file is opened and saved I need it to show as this
    rw-rw---- user acc.
    In other words the username of the person that opened and saved the file and the group needs to stay the same. My problem is I can either get it to allow access by group and deny other but it wont save with the acc group. It keeps saving with the owner as the group - OR - I can keep that force group in there but then it allows anyone to access the share. Is there a way to do this correctly?

    [acc]
    comment = Accounting Dept
    path = /share/acc
    browseable = yes
    writable = yes
    write list = @acc
    create mode = 0660
    directory mode= 0770
    force group = acc

    Re:Samba help

    Who owns the folder?

    Make sure acc owns it, see if that works.

    Re:Samba help

    That wasn't the problem. Let's say that joe and bob belong to the acc group. They have access to the group but every time bob opens and save a file it saves it with owner bob and group bob. So know no one else can edit the file. I need it to be saved with acc as the group no matter who opens and saves it.

    [acc]

    path = /share/acc
    browseable = yes
    writable = yes
    write list = @acc
    create mode = 0660
    directory mode= 0770
    force group = +acc
    guest ok = no
    This fixed it. For some reason the plus sign before the force group was all I needed. I have never seen that before but it works. Hope this helps someone in the future.
