upgrading to KDE 3.1 - libs missing

I really suck since my Inet connection is around 9,6 Kbit - but I really wnt to upgrade, so I've downloaded the biggest RPMS for my version (ASP, i386) including libs and base, and arts - about 46 out of 135 available files and as the dependencies were resolved, I've strted to install (from under version 3.01 localized) - after restart the sound server says : libartsqslplayobject.la missing ... etc . PLS advise what can i do ?
    I presume that
    1) there might be a file-list for RPMS (but it's not on the rpmfind and freshmeat 8(
    2) or ther should be a way to configure the KDE around this problem ... since other apps can "cat" the sound files or is there any other sollution?

have you run (as root) /sbin/ldconfig yet? If that doesnt work, try this :

    /sbin/ldconfig -p > ~liblist
    less liblist

Now scroll thru and see if the specific library is there in the list or not. Let us know what happens. Chances are that the lib is not there, but even if it is, an ldconfig is needed only ;D (That tells Linux what and where libraries are available.) If you dont find it, try this then JUST to be sure that a path hasnt been changed (again as root).

    /sbin/updatedb
    locate <nameoflibrary>

If nothing else worked, but you found the library, you more than likely dont have the path to it listed in your /etc/ld.so.conf file. Add it, rerun ldconfig and all shall be good.

Thanks, the situation changed a bit - after working around, I have come to re-installing my system, but regardless to what I do, the ARTs driver is just plain dead 8(
PLS advise: can it be due to my ISA Sound board (ESS)
or my ASP distro? BYTW I've downloaded KDE 3.11 update ... same problem ???
