I've not tried it, but it seems to be a little immature still. I believe it was released in Summer '01, and by then Linux was quite established as THE free OS. Still though...I'd love to know what it's like.
Has anyone tried the Hurd kernel? What about the software that runs on it? Any experiences?

I've used HURD with Debian before. It has awsome potential but is lacking a lot of features due to the small dev team and the complexity of the daemon system. It's worth playing with but don't expect a server/desktop ready kernel, it just can't support a lot of things we love and expect from other monolithic kernels.
