Kinda depends on the distro. If you use an RPM based distro, put all of the new update rpms in a folder, cd to that folder, then go to su mode and issue the command:
rpm -Uvh --force --nodeps *.rpm
Be sure to do this in console mode.
This works well on SuSE. I can't swear to others.
On Debian, I suppose apt would do the job very well, but I leave that advice to the Debbies...
