    Seems to still have active development http://www.screem.org I had forgotten all about this bad boy, it was kinda cool about three years ago (one of the originals on the linux scene if I remember)

    screem was one of my first experiences with a 'featured' editor. For the longest time I thought the best text editors for coding were textpad-like editors. That said, I haven't used it in a long time..

    Quanta's very cool. I say if it gets the job done, thats what you should use. Pick one and learn as much as you can about it. I love customizing my editor so I just mystify people that watch me work. I have about 100 abbreviations defined so most of my code looks crazy until I smack the space bar at the end and it expands into a fully formatted try catch block, or another defined abbrev. I usually get a "How the hell did you do that?" type response. I just smile as my superpowers remain a secret for a little while longer :-P
