cdrom not picking up music cd or burnt cd

On my SuSE box, when I try to listen to a music cd, it doesnt pick it up(roar) and when I try and mount a cd I burnt in Windoze(using adaptec) it says no medium found ??? wtf? any ideas? thanks

may be one of the new breed that refuses to play in cdroms. Although, I do have a few Iron Maiden cd's that will only work in my car and pc. Stereo and DVD player (for TV) wont read them.

hmm.. I just tried installing some software from the SuSE cd, and it wont work either :\

I did pop the hood on this beast to put a network card in(it installed SuSE fine, and played Big Shiny Tunes 6 just fine) so maybe something is ajar (???)

I just checked to see if something was connected wrong or something.. nope.. all was good.. dang it. It just stopped working ... Argh..

*ALL* of my maiden cds work great in my DVD drive.

even the new re-released Live After Death - which is what the 1st live after death CD should have been.

When I boot, it says CDROM Found : ATAPI CDROM.. but it still doesnt work :/.. It wont boot off of a cd, I cant read cds at all, maybe I should change which IDE channel its on???

have you tried cleaning the drive? it sounds like the drive itself is messed up.

That would be a good idea. It does need to be cleaned. I will try that and post the results.. BTW, what is the best thing to clean it with?

See, the drive kicks ass for everything except audio cd's. For DIVX, VCD, DVD, PCD -- its great. Audio -- sucks. Most cds dont work. The new satch cd doesnt work. Nor does any of my disturbed. The rev horton heat one does, though. No metallica.
