    tar - ownership problem

Hi, I have the following problem!

I have downloaded a gcc (gcc-3.0.tar.gz) compiler and I am trying to unpack it, after running the following commands:

    gzip d gcc-3.0.tar.gz

    tar xvf gcc-3.0.tar

I noticed that the owner of the new directory and files created are for another user on the system, despite that I am logged in as root. I also noticed that this applies any time I run the tar command. Does anybody know about this problem and how I can resolve it? Thanks in advance for any help provided!

    Re:tar - ownership problem

    After unpacking just do this:

    chown -R root gcc-3.0
