hello,
if you have a CD burner then it should be set up as a scsi device, else this does not matter. i am not really up on except for USB. in any event i would modify the modules.conf file and see if that helps.
I'm running Mandrake 8.2, 2.4.18. 2 IDE hard drives, IDE DVD
For some strange reason, I get several defunctioning modprobe's?
After running a while I have several, they are all children to devfsd, can't be killed.
Output of
# ps -ax
1793 vc/6 S 0:00 /sbin/mingetty tty6
1794 ? S 0:00 /usr/bin/kdm -nodaemon
2001 ? S< 0:01 /etc/X11/X -deferglyphs 16 -auth /var/lib/kdm/authfiles/A:0-dgREly
2007 ? S 0:00 -:0
2009 ? Z 0:00 [modprobe <defunct>]
2015 ? S 0:00 /usr/bin/kdm_greet

I don't have SCSI? Could be needed by ATAPI/IDE-drives, but they work fine without this?
In /etc/modules.devfs there are several lines scsi_hostadapter, but this file shouldn't be edited?

I don't have a CD-burner.
In modules/modules.conf I can specify what to load - I can't specify what should not be loaded?
This has happened on 2 computers, Mandrake 8.2 & 9.0.
Both distro's installed several times, same thing happens every time.
