I upgraded my work laptop to rh 8.0 from 7.3 and for some reason, xmms wont play mp3s anymore. Is there a patch i need to download or has it just gone stupid on me?

What kinda crap is that? Fear of lawsuit disease? But, thanks for the info.
Maybe they are just trying to support the ogg format.

RedHat has (recall the KDE bullshit a few years back) had a thing about potentially unfree software. I still am unclear how MySQL still makes it in (technically you do need a license for commercial applications), but mp3 has some commercial restrictions that they dont want to deal with. The resoution isnt difficult, but rather irritating. I wish they hadnt, but in the same sense I can't really fault them for them move.
There is another package in there, that has the mp3 plugin. WHich one, I don't know. I ahd the same prob, and then installed most of the multimedia packages, and all was good.
