    'new' pentium 75 mobo/proc

    My buddy gave me a pentium 75 machine, not knowing if it works. So I stuck an Mach64 Card in, and turned er on.. nothing. the power supply is fine, I reset the cmos settings(I love that jumper) but it still dont do dick all.. any ideas?

    Nope, only a grinding sound coming seemingly from the power supply

    i assume ya tried with just the vid card and memory install - right?

    yep, just popped in another power supply.. argh.. Think its a fried mobo?

    Or may be a fried processor. Do you have another processor to test it out?

    The thing that screams at me is the lack of the mainboard beeps. Check to see if there is a buzzer connected to the board. You want to have one connected. Steal one from another machine if necessary. The beeps will generate a sort of code (long/short, kinda like morse code) and that will tell you a number. You can then reference it to whoever made your chipsets (Intel/VIA/ALi) and figure out what is causing the PC from POSTing.

    man we might have to dig thru my mound of computer stuff again. theres gotta be another board or chip in there somewhere

    yea, we gotta do that. maybe on the weekend(??)...dude.. that DX-4 is a beast eh?

    pentium 75?

    Did you check the battery? That box is old enough for that (that being the cmos battery to die) to happen.
