    HTML Question

    Hey yo!

    I got a friend who is stumped regarding how to fix a problem that has recently cropped up. He is writing the page (which is pasted below) to act as a collector of names and emails. This is to create a fan list. Currently he had it working where you plop in the info and click submit, and a local file gets the data. Where is the error. I checked it on the w3.org HTML validator and none of the erorrs are relavent to this.

    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Solid Solution Online</title>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
    </head>

    <body bgcolor="0D3367" vlink="#999999" alink="#999999">
    <center>
      <table width="774" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
        <!--DWLayoutTable-->
        <tr>
          <td width="252" height="12"></td>
          <td width="269"></td>
          <td width="253"></td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
          <td height="12"></td>
          <td valign="top"><div align="center"><font color="#FFFFFF" size="-3"><a href="newz.html">- ENTER

    Re:HTML Question

    Syntax looks correct, except that he could add quotation marks around METHOD=POST to make it METHOD="POST".

    Can HTML even store submitted data without the help of a dynamic lang (Perl, PHP, ASP, etc.)? In all my days of HTML, I've never known it to be able to do this. I think your friend needs some type of Perl, PHP, or Python script to write the input to a file.

    Re:HTML Question

    Yes posting to an HTML file looks very suspicious. Cna you post the contents of newz.html?

    Re:HTML Question

    You cannot write to disk without a CGI type language... (PHP, Perl, etc) HTML has no facilities to do this... Try posting something to an HTML page and it will say the method is not supported... unless he changed apache.conf (pretty sure it's spec'ed in there) to parse HTML pages with PHP or perl
