hi ken,
well this sucks... i am guessing that you are trying the GUI install, have you tried other methods - e.g. expert... we know the disks are good because you installed before.
After three days of trying to get things going (see thread of Id "x" responding too fast;-( ) I finally gave up and formatted and attempted to reinstall from boxed CD again. No joy here either
It looks like a perfect install up to the part where it says Installing Packages with glibc-common-2.2.93-5 (the first file) and hangs... no movement of the bar, or anything, no error messages, no nothing... just hangs and the only way out is a reset. Tried three times so far...
At least I could reset /mbr and get winbloatXP back.
Should be totally blank/formatted 27 gb /ext3 and 1 gb swap (and Partition Magic concurs) but no joy as to installing.
The gods of Redmond have cursed me for trying to leave them in the dust.
Any help for this, the latest fiaco?
TIA,
Ken

Yes, sux is about the luck I'm having ...
After writing this, I went back and tried Mandrake 9.0 it crapped:
I assume this might have been bad media (from cheapbytes)Code:error in exec of stage 2. Trying to execute /usr/bin/runinsstall2 from install vol.
I then tried the images of RH 7.3 that pbharris sent me several months ago JOY ! installed perfectly!
Being triumphant, I tried upgrade from that to 8.0 (which had earlier crapped.. no joy, ended at the same point hung at same place.
But feeling that since 7.3 went on, I'd try 8.0 full install again. Also no joy.
Then I did a mediacheck on the full set of boxed 8.0 and all got a PASS.
Tried full install again, confident that the media was good .. again, no joy; ended at same place hung wanting to install the first file...
I'm going to go back in a bit and install 7.3 and at least have a Linux until someone can help me, or I get Phoebe, or whatever.
Ken
