    rsolve ip address to hostname

With ping -a <ip address> we can see ip address and the name of the machine. But no name shows up when I use same switch -a in Linux fedora core 2.

Basically what am I trying to see is the hostname assigned by corporate dhcp server to my linux box. linux box is in corporate network.

What command can I use from my linux box to acomplish it?

    Thanks

    Have you tried 'hostname'?

just type 'hostname' and it should give you the host name.

Other things to try: if you want to access the hostname from the dns, use nslookup or dig.
