    What The? SPAM?

A recent check in my email inbox has revealed that my email address is now under attack by SPAMMERS. What is even more amazing is the fact that it is from Japanese SPAMMERS. Yes, even though I cannot view the email properly because I lack the Japanese language set on my computer, I have become a victim of Japanese SPAM! Also, they are not violating any laws because they do provide a way to remover yourself off their mailing list, except the whole process in done in Japanese, and I have no idea how to navigate it! What a bitch!

babblefish, but dont try to remove yourself, all those things do is serve as a way to prove that you actually recieved their ad so they can sell you to more people. Use BogoFilter and teach it what your spam smells like, pretty soon your E-mail box will be clean as a whistle. I get ~70 spam/day and never see a one of them, and in the year i have been using Bogo I only had one false positive.

Cool. But doesn't that violate US law to make SPAM without a way to get out of it? I know it violates Australian law, so I sent the email to a team over here in Aussie land that investigates SPAM and prosecutes the spammers, and the companies responsible. Here is what might happen to them:

If they are a company that is spamming or advertising with spam:
1.)Up to $110,000 per day for corporate infringments, $1.1 Million for repeat offenders.
2.) $44,000 per day for offending individuals.

Turns out that the SPAM I was recieving was actually a virus. Lucky for me I was running Linux and I couldn't even get infected by it! Poor suckers that run Windows though...

...........you cant catch them all, you can get a good idea of where they come from by reading the raw headers, but there isnt much that can be done. I have Bogofilter setup to sift through my mail, and it does a damn fine job (very few misses, and not a single false positive in 6 months of use) after bogo identifies a spam, it sends it off to spamcops to be cataloged and eventually somthing may happen as far as prosecution goes. But I am just happy that i hardly ever have to deal with it anymore (I see maybe one or two a week, that is of the ~150/week that I recieve)
