I officially do not understand RH 8

Ok, I'm trying to build the most minimal system possible, so I choose a minimal installation. Now, however, I need to install gcc. Ok no problem. However, gcc has a number of dependencies, one of them being glibc-devel. Are you with me so far? Ok, glibc-devel has a dependency of kernel-headers, however there is no such package on my CD or at RHN for kernel-headers for the kernel that comes with RH 8. Am I missing something obvious, or are things a little screwy with RH 8? If kernel-headers are needed for glibc-devel then what the heck does the RH install install if I choose the development suite during installation rather than minimal? Can anyone help me? Things seemed somewhare easier with 7.x. I'd rather not do a big fat install, and, AFAIK, RH is the only distro that will support the on board gig cards in my box.
