it's all a matter of taste.

yeah, once one learns how to use the tool that is what it boils down to.

    Re:FreeBSD Video problems

It's not really Unix. But it is a true descendant of Unix, unlike Linux. The original BSD was a branch of the Unix code. AT&T sued Berkeley though, so the final release of BSD, 4.4 which FreeBSD is based on, had no Unix code within it. FreeBSD evolved from BSD 4.4, and now it probably has little if any of the original code. So FreeBSD has came a long way since Unix. But the only other operating system that is a second descendant from it (if I'm not mistaken) is Solaris. So it is pretty much as close to Unix as you can get nowadays.

Also dont forget SCO, AIX, HP-UX and tons of other Unices which are still around to some degree. Heres the UN*X history tree pretty cool if you ask me .

Don't forget that in the early days BSD itself was not an operating system but a mere collection of tools that went around UNIX. It wasn't until later that BSD came into it's own with a full O.S. Solaris is a direct split from the the BSD tree but if you;ve looked at Solaris lately you'd be hard pressed to find very many similarities.
