Made mke2fs on vfat partition, want it back..

I accidentally ran 'mke2fs /dev/hda1' - that should have been hda11... (Thanks to the NumLock problem)
hda1 happened to be a 2 GB Win98-partition, my wife uses it & saves stuff on it... she's not very happy today >
Does anybody know if it is possible to get the data back? I believe there might be a problem with the superblocks, stored on several places thus overwriting data?
Possible or not, I'd also like to know the exact location & size of the FAT's - could use 'dd' then to make a backup.

Someone out there who wants to make my wife happy?
    Please??

tough one, i guess i would st image it using dd like you said, then i would toggle it back to vfat and see what is left. all this using fdisk. also fdisk can give you very good info about how the partions are set up.
