Mozilla hurt by Apple blast

AOL Time Warner's Mozilla project is facing new questions about quality after Apple Computer's release of a browser based on rival open-source code.

Apple last week unveiled its own browser, called Safari. The company said it was based on the KHTML rendering engine that is the core of Konqueror, an open-source file manager and Web browser for the K Desktop Environment (KDE).

From what I read on other sites, the mozilla developers weren't really complaining about Apples choice, its just that ZDnet seems to want some page hits. But if there is some disappointment in the mozilla community, I think they need to get over it. They chose whats best, and they've done a good job with it. Chimera is still there for OS X if you want Gecko.

I thought Mozilla broke away from AOHell-TW when they bought out Netscape?

Actually, they already gave back all of the modified KHTML code to the KDE developers. The only part of the Safari browser that is closed is the fancy-shmancy OS X GUI.

It looks like (for now, at least) Apple is playing by the rules.
