    Samba Help Needed

    Hi there,

I need to configure Samba in such way, could anyone tell me is this possible and HOW?

Many Windows 2000 workstation ---connect to--->Sun Solaris

where one of the W2K workstation dedicated as a print server whenever there is a print job sent to Sun Solaris server, it will direct to W2K print server workstation.

Previously it is done using Solstice, but now thinking to upgrade/change to use Samba instead.

    Thanks alot!

If the Win2k workstation is the print server, why not have cleints print to that directly? Why print to your sun box which then redirects jobs to another box?

My bad. I guess I'm not that familiar with *nix printing. I just imagined that if you had windoze clients, that they could print directly to a windoze print server without needing an intermediary.

Win2K have a printing software support for UNIX style printing.

( I can hunt it down if you wanted to know but I don't currently have Windows box up and I'm sure you know where to set up software support for various Windows clients for Win2K print server since it needs different print support for Win 95, NT and so forth ).

Yes, MS there have this but I need something for free.... we had about 200 PCs gonna convert to Windows 2000 based on the backbone architecture, but if put on additional cost to printing mecahism to UNIX, that will be another RM200K (appx. USD$50K)...

There are Solaris ports of Samba available for download for both Intel and Sparc hardware.
